Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Long-term Trends in Spring and Summer-flooded Wetland area in Suisun Marsh, California Long-term Trends in Spring and Summer-flooded Wetland area in Suisun Marsh, California
We digitized water on the landscape for breeding waterfowl and other wetland-associated species within Suisun Marsh (California, USA) twice each year (spring and summer) during a 38-year period (1984-2021) with remote sensing methods that combined Landsat satellite imagery (composite images) and spectral mixture analysis using Google Earth Engine. This dataset contains the amount of...
Luminescence data for: Trench Exposures across the Dead Coyote fault scarp in Kittitas Valley, Washington Luminescence data for: Trench Exposures across the Dead Coyote fault scarp in Kittitas Valley, Washington
The Wallula fault zone is an integral feature of the Olympic-Wallowa lineament, an ∼500-km-long topographic lineament oblique to the Cascadia plate boundary, extending from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, to Walla Walla, Washington. The structure and past earthquake activity of the Wallula fault zone are important because of nearby infrastructure, and also because the fault zone...
Pallid Sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus albus) Free Embryo Drift and Dispersal Experiment Associated with the Fort Peck Dam Flow Test in the Upper Missouri River, Montana, June 2024 Pallid Sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus albus) Free Embryo Drift and Dispersal Experiment Associated with the Fort Peck Dam Flow Test in the Upper Missouri River, Montana, June 2024
The data set contains sampling and catch data associated with an experiment to examine dispersal and short-term survival of endangered pallid sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus albus) free embryos in the Missouri River of eastern Montana. The experiment was conducted as part of a flow test from Fort Peck Dam, when warm surface water from Fort Peck reservoir was released over the spillway to...
Metabarcoding data of the fish community within Tuckahoe Creek, a tributary of the James River, Virginia, USA. Metabarcoding data of the fish community within Tuckahoe Creek, a tributary of the James River, Virginia, USA.
Electrofishing is currently the most common method used to assess freshwater fish communities. Although conventional electrofishing practices are considered effective there are inherent limitations. One alternative method for evaluating fish assemblage dynamics is the sequencing of environmental DNA (eDNA) extracted from water samples. Although eDNA sampling has become more common in...
GIS Data for Reconnaissance Geologic Map of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, Idaho County, Idaho, and Missoula and Ravalli counties, Montana GIS Data for Reconnaissance Geologic Map of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, Idaho County, Idaho, and Missoula and Ravalli counties, Montana
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides a digital geospatial database for the reconnaissance geologic map of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, Idaho County, Idaho, and Missoula and Ravalli counties, Montana (Toth, 1983). Attribute tables and geospatial features (points, lines, and polygons) conform to the Geologic Map Schema (USGS NCGMP, 2020) and represent the geologic...
Floodplain Forest Response to Multiple Large-Scale Inundation Events Survey Data From Eight Pools of the Upper Mississippi River Collected During the Growing Seasons of 1995 and 2021 Floodplain Forest Response to Multiple Large-Scale Inundation Events Survey Data From Eight Pools of the Upper Mississippi River Collected During the Growing Seasons of 1995 and 2021
Throughout the Upper Mississippi River System (UMRS), floods in 1993 and 2019 were record-setting events in terms of flood stage and duration of flooding. Floodplain tree species are adapted to survive moderate frequencies, intensities, and durations of inundation. These events generated interest in quantifying levels of tree mortality and presented an opportunity to study how...
Draft Genome Sequences of Two Putatively Novel Mycobacterium Species Isolated from Northern Snakeheads (Channa argus) Inhabiting the Potomac River Catchment Draft Genome Sequences of Two Putatively Novel Mycobacterium Species Isolated from Northern Snakeheads (Channa argus) Inhabiting the Potomac River Catchment
We report two draft genomes of previously undescribed Mycobacterium spp. isolated from invasive Northern snakehead (Channa argus) inhabiting the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, USA. The average nucleotide identity between these isolates and other available genomes was
Fish species occurrence data (HUC12) in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island Fish species occurrence data (HUC12) in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island
This data release includes the results of state agency led electrofishing surveys conducted in lotic habitats in six states in the Northeastern U.S.: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The following state agencies collected the electrofishing data: Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife, Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, Vermont...
World-Wide Standardized Seismographic Network Film Chip Scans World-Wide Standardized Seismographic Network Film Chip Scans
These are the scanned digital images of microfilm copies of paper seismic records from the World-Wide Standardized Seismographic Network (WWSSN). This data set spans from 1962 to 1978 and contains about 3.7 million single-day records, which is about 5% of the entire archive. Overall the data set contains 153 magnitude 6+ earthquakes and 156 nuclear explosions. All scans were done using...
Transcriptomic Data for Brook Trout Collected from the Loyalsock Creek Watershed, Pennsylvania in 2016-2017 Transcriptomic Data for Brook Trout Collected from the Loyalsock Creek Watershed, Pennsylvania in 2016-2017
This dataset contains gene expression data for brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) collected from the Loyalsock Creek watershed in Pennsylvania. Gene expression was quantified for three genes of interest: elongation factor 1-alpha (EF1), SfontSerpinh1 (a heat shock protein gene), and SfontColdRNA (a gene associated with cold response). The dataset was generated to support investigations...
Projected Land Cover-Dependent Ecosystem Services Scenarios for the Hawaiian Islands from 2070-2010 Projected Land Cover-Dependent Ecosystem Services Scenarios for the Hawaiian Islands from 2070-2010
The goal of this project was to produce estimates of the change in three ecosystem services - water yield, sediment runoff, and reef productivity (or seafood benefits) - under climate change and three newly developed land cover scenarios. The developed land cover scenarios expanded upon the Hawaii Carbon Assessment by simulating future land cover scenarios. The resulting scenarios used...
PFAS accumulation and effects in juvenile ospreys (Pandion haliaetus) from Chesapeake and Delaware Bays PFAS accumulation and effects in juvenile ospreys (Pandion haliaetus) from Chesapeake and Delaware Bays
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a class of ubiquitous, environmentally persistent compounds that pose a threat to human and wildlife health. Ospreys (Pandion halieatus) are a model avian species with a documented history of serving as effective bioindicators of contamination. Our study aims to provide a more thorough understanding of PFAS presence in the Chesapeake and...
